I’ve seen the posters and the trailers. I have avoided the reviews but I can guess the tone. This is the music to what looks like a massive budget Hollywood action flick (or a vanity project for Will Smith and his son).

This OST does exactly what it says on the tin. There are soaring strings aplenty. There is mood, there is build up, and there are pounding percussions, the lot. James Newton Howard is a long time M. Night Shyamalan collaborator and has scored all of the director’s films since The Sixth Sense. This soundtrack is fine but I get the impression he was either uninspired buy the film or just couldn’t be arsed to put much effort in.

This is ok, not great, but who needs great; it serves a purpose and it sounds BIG, really big.
