The much-anticipated and now Oscar nominated; best actress for The Streep, best supporting actress for The Roberts (sincerely hoping my monikers for them stick) movie version of the award-winning play August: Osage County needs a suitably BIG OST to complement it. Continue reading

Anchorman 2 OST
With an introduction by Ron Burgandy himself who describes this album as making “Sergeant Pepper sound like a rejected jingle for Ritz crackers” this album is exactly what you would expect to accompany the sequel to one of the funniest films ever. Continue reading
The Spectacular Now OST
The Spectacular Now is about Sutter Keely (Miles Teller), a high school senior and effortless charmer, and of how he unexpectedly falls in love with “the good girl” Aimee Finecky (Shailene Woodley). Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (500 Days of Summer) it is described as “a vivid, three-dimensional portrait of youth confronting the thrilling and perilous business od modern love and adulthood” – whimsy in other words. Continue reading
Americana: Wish You Were Here OST
This is an album of original music scored for the film Wish You Were Here by Jordan Shapiro. He is a one man outfit for the most part and seems to have played on, sung on and written this whole shebang. Continue reading
The Heat OST
The Heat is about an uptight FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock, presumably channelling her Miss Congeniality gene) and a foul-mouthed Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy, no way playing a foul mouthed funny girl? I just don’t believe it!). Inevitably they become best buddies through the course of this film from Paul Feig, director of Bridesmaids. Continue reading
After Earth OST
I’ve seen the posters and the trailers. I have avoided the reviews but I can guess the tone. This is the music to what looks like a massive budget Hollywood action flick (or a vanity project for Will Smith and his son). Continue reading
Scary Movie 5 OST
I suspect this soundtrack is a good reflection of the film which I haven’t seen; pretty much what you would expect, mostly disappointing with a few gems to redeem it (actually I reckon it might be better than the film…). Continue reading
Spring Breakers OST
Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. On their spring break they rob a restaurant and get bailed out by a drug dealer. Sounds pretty mixed up, much like the soundtrack. Continue reading
Phantom OST
Phantom is a recent film starring Ed Harris and David Duchovny set on a Russian submarine. Harris plays the captain of a Cold War Soviet missile submarine rushed into a classified mission, where he is haunted by his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group (led by Duchovny) testing a secret new weapon. Focus Features 10th Anniversary: A Collection of Film Scores
Focus Features is 10 years old and to celebrate it has released this collection of music from 18 of its films, some big hitters and some smaller projects. At first this feels like a modern classical album perfect for sticking on whilst staring out of the window with a cuppa. Continue reading
