Dr. Rebecca Gomperts sails a ship around the world, providing abortions at sea for women with no legal alternative. Because the ship is registered in a country where abortion is legal, Norway, as long as she moors in international waters she can offer women from countries where abortion is illegal or difficult to access the ability to take control of their own lives and fertility.

Diana Whitten spent 10 years putting this documentary together; she worked full time and using other filmmakers’ footage and her won she managed to pull this story together. And thank goodness she did. Not only will Dr Rebecca Gomperts become your new hero hopefully you will realise how lucky we are in the UK to have the laws we do to ensure women have power over their own bodies.

The message is compelling; we see email messages and hear phone calls from women all around the world begging for help, from the teenage Muslim rape victim to the poverty stricken mother these are personal stories and they are rightly very moving.

The change that Dr Gomperts was able to bring about not only to legislation but to individual lives (numbering in the tens of thousands) is a testament to her unwavering belief and guts of steel. Diana Whitten has quite rightly won several awards for this feature and you really should see it.
