The Heat is about an uptight FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock, presumably channelling her Miss Congeniality gene) and a foul-mouthed Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy, no way playing a foul mouthed funny girl? I just don’t believe it!). Inevitably they become best buddies through the course of this film from Paul Feig, director of Bridesmaids. Continue reading
After Earth OST
I’ve seen the posters and the trailers. I have avoided the reviews but I can guess the tone. This is the music to what looks like a massive budget Hollywood action flick (or a vanity project for Will Smith and his son). Continue reading
Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff
Apparently “Boy Nobody” has attracted strong interest from Sony Pictures who are looking at a producing a movie adaptation starring Jaden Smith. If they are looking for the latest young adult franchise to make a mint out of this could well be it. Continue reading
Scary Movie 5 OST
I suspect this soundtrack is a good reflection of the film which I haven’t seen; pretty much what you would expect, mostly disappointing with a few gems to redeem it (actually I reckon it might be better than the film…). Continue reading
Spring Breakers OST
Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. On their spring break they rob a restaurant and get bailed out by a drug dealer. Sounds pretty mixed up, much like the soundtrack. Continue reading
Phantom OST
Phantom is a recent film starring Ed Harris and David Duchovny set on a Russian submarine. Harris plays the captain of a Cold War Soviet missile submarine rushed into a classified mission, where he is haunted by his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group (led by Duchovny) testing a secret new weapon. Snitch
At first this tale of successful businessman John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) trying to help his drug dealing son get out of jail free gives the impression that it is going to be high octane, straight to the action and ridiculous. It becomes clear 30 minutes in however that although it is ridiculous there is not much action. Continue reading
Focus Features 10th Anniversary: A Collection of Film Scores
Focus Features is 10 years old and to celebrate it has released this collection of music from 18 of its films, some big hitters and some smaller projects. At first this feels like a modern classical album perfect for sticking on whilst staring out of the window with a cuppa. Continue reading
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey OST
Back in December last year most of us with any love of LOTR ran to the cinema to watch the first installment of Peter Jackson’s take on The Hobbit, a prequel if you like to LOTR. Now I have had the pleasure to listen to the soundtrack that accompanies the film. Continue reading
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
There was a time a few years ago when it wouldn’t be Christmas without a Peter Jackson trip to Middle Earth. His legendary Lord of the Rings trilogy was an amazing showcase for new technologies, little known actors, New Zealand landscapes and special effects along with brilliant creative solutions to the problem of how to bring Tolkien’s fantastical land to life. Continue reading
